DRAFT THOUGHTS AFTER DAY TWO

The Will Levis drama ended quickly last night when Tennessee traded up to #33 to draft the Wildcat QB. This seems to officially end the Malik Willis experiment in Tennessee as last year’s third-round selection seems to be out of favor in Nashville.

Hendon Hooker fell to the third round, even though he is the 3rd best QB in this draft. But fortunately for Hooker, he lands at a great destination in Detroit where he can be developed behind Jared Goff for a season or two before taking over in the Motor City.

The anticipated TE run began in earnest in round 2 as 8 TEs were selected on Friday. And there are a bunch of quality TEs still available as day 3 kicks off at noon today. Will Mallory, Zach Kuntz, and Davis Allen all project as starting TEs in the NFL. Expect them to be drafted before round 5 concludes today.

The Denver Broncos will potentially be making history this year with the drafting of Riley Moss / CB / Iowa. If Moss makes the roster, he would be the first white CB to play meaningful minutes in an NFL game since Jason Sehorn retired nearly two decades ago. The myth of the “black QB” has been exposed as the idiocy it was and it is time that the myth of the “white CB” dies a similar death. Moss has speed, instincts, loose hips, and good ball skills. He’s an NFL quality CB. Period. No qualifiers required. It’ll be interesting to see if high school and college coaches convert some RBs and WRs to CB when the Moss experiment is judged a success (and it will be judged as a success). Excellent pick by Sean Payton and the Broncos.

The Bears drafted two boom or bust DT prospects with the selection of Gervon Dexter at #53 and Zacch Pickens at #64. Both players were highly sought after recruits but underachieved during their time in the SEC East. It’s a low-risk strategy to acquire immense talents that may be better pros than college players.

The next QBs who should go off the board today should be Dorian Thompson-Robinson, Jake Haener, Aidan O’Connell, Clayton Tune, and Tanner McKee.

Will Malik Cunningham get drafted? The Louisville QB is similar to Lamar Jackson but isn’t as dynamic and doesn’t have the arm Jackson has. He’s a great athlete who has battled injuries the last two years but is an ideal backup QB to be developed by any team the employs a mobile QB / read option system.

Today at 12 noon EST, the draft concludes with rounds 4-7 during of the NFL Draft. SNS will be posting LIVE UPDATES & ANALYSIS. Check it out @ stacknshed.com!
