Specialist (K, P, LS) Scouting Reports - 2023

Bird’s Eye View: Positional Analysis

The quality of special teams play in the NFL has really seemed to decline over the last few years. Specifically, the ability to make an extra point (a 33-yard kick!) seems like a lost art. Well, the 2023 NFL Draft is here to the rescue! There are three outstanding kicking prospects available in this draft led by Jake Moody (Michigan) who displays both a powerful leg capable of 55-yard FGs and reliable accuracy inside of 50 yards. Chad Ryland (Maryland) and 2022 Groza Award winner Christopher Dunn (North Carolina State) both project as draftable prospects in April.

Teams needing a punter have three potential prospects who may get drafted in April. Bryce Barringer (Michigan State), 2022 Ray Guy Award winner Adam Korsak (Rutgers), and Andy Vujnovich (Wisconsin).

All in all, 2023 is a good draft for specialists and there could be multiple day 3 picks made in April.

Positional Grade: A-

Bryce Baringer, P, Michigan State

Extremely powerful leg and the ball booms off his foot. Good hang time and forces a lot of fair catches. Needs to improve ability to execute coffin corner kicks. Excellent leg strength and can kick with distance and great hang-time. Grades out as a draftable prospect and could be selected on Saturday of the draft.

Adam Korsak / P / Rutgers

Australian. Displays nice touch and placement on punts near the end zone. NFL-caliber leg and gets both hang-time and distance on punts. 2022 Ray Guy Award winner. Likely to get drafted on day 3 in April.
